Advanced Graphene Products S.A. (AGP), a leading producer in Europe of flake graphene and large-size graphene with a unique and patented HSMG® technology concluded an agreement with the European Space Agency – an international organisation of the European countries whose aim is to explore and use the space. The contract with the European Space Agency is the continuity of the previous cooperation within devising a cryogenic sensor based on the graphene semi-conductor sensory element.
Advanced Graphene Products made a debut on Warsaw NewConnect market at the end of November last year. The Company, as the only graphene producer in Poland, has significant research and organisational resources, which enablethe annual production of 100 kg of flake graphene and 150 m2 of large-size graphene. This level will allow for the commercialisation of the devised graphene applications on an industrial scale.
The European Space Agency becomes the customer of AGP for the second time
The AGP strategy anticipates the full industrial commercialisation within 3-5 years of the 2-3 projects (i.a. in the field of anticorrosion coats) from among the projects in its current portfolio. The contract with the European Space Agency is the continuity of the previous cooperation within devising a cryogenic sensor based on the graphene semi-conductor sensory element.
“The cooperation with the European Space Agency is the continuity of the project which we have been conducting successfully for two years. The first stage was completed with a success. We are pleased that such a renowned international partner has emphasised on many occasions that cooperation with Advanced Graphene Products is excellent. Now, we are entering a new project stage, which was announced to investors during the Road Show. The aim of this project is taking it to the TRL6 level. The sensor, which will be made, will be used by ESA for applications in cryogenic conditions, in order to measure the temperature and the intensity of a magnetic field, for example in spacecraft. I am sure that our sensor will pay a crucial role in discovering the space” – said Maciej Gałązka, the President of the Management Board of Advanced Graphene Products S.A.
HSMG® graphene – resistant material with unlimited possibilities
Advanced Graphene Products is the author of a method of producing graphene, High Strength Metallurgical Graphene (HSMG®). This type of graphene is made owing to the advanced method of growth on liquid metal. This process is fully controlled and it enables the production of large-size quasi-mono-crystal graphene. By obtaining graphene ribbons, we are able to transfer graphene to various surfaces, which in this way have exceptional properties. An example here are different types of sensors which must operated reliably in critical temperatures.
“Graphene has required properties in extremely low temperatures. A graphene-based sensor may operate in extreme cryogenic conditions and that was something what convinced the European Space Agency to cooperate with us. ESA, like us, believes much in the graphene production method, HSMG, patented by our Company. I believe that in the future, we will be able to extend our cooperation and work on a more comprehensive scale, discovering the space together” – said Maciej Gałązka, the President of the Management Board of Advanced Graphene Products S.A.
Cooperation in many fields
Our cooperation with the European Space Agency is a long-term relationship. The current project is to be implemented within 18 months and it is worth EUR 60,000.
The AGP activity model is based on cooperation with business partners representing sectors with the highest potential within the use of the produced graphene as polymers/filaments for 3D printing, epoxy resins, anticorrosion coats, oils and greases. However, there are more and more new possibilities of using graphene. The Company has particular hopes associated with graphene produced by means of the patented HSMG® method.
Based on the analytical data concerning the worldwide graphene market, its average annual growth dynamics in 2020-2027 will be around 40%, and the market will be worth USD 877 m. in 2027. (According to: Allied Market Research). According to the research company, Reports n Reports, the global value of the graphene market will increase from USD 200 m. in 2018 to USD 1 bil. in 2023.
The agreement is implemented as part of the programme and it is financed by the European Space Agency. The view expressed in this document must not be treated as reflecting the official opinion of the European Space Agency.
