Graphene - what is it used for?
Graphene may be used both for improving the properties of the already existing products and it may be used for creating new, innovative technologies.
THE USE OF GRAPHENE IN POLYMER PRODUCTION
Synthetic polymers are a basic building element of plastics and also many other commonly used chemical products, such as: paints, varnishes, industrial oils, lubricating products, adhesives, etc.
Advanced Graphene Products researched the use of graphene in polypropylene, which is a thermoplastic hydrocarbon polymer. This material may obtain a highly elastic state under increasing temperature. It may be re-solidified after temperature decrease, without changing chemical properties.
As a result of this research, it was demonstrated that 5% graphene additive contributed to more than 60% increase in the tested composite impact resistance. There was also 10% increase in tensile strength observed for the same graphene concentration.
What does it mean in practice? Graphene addition to polymers has a clearly positive influence on their properties, increasing impact resistance and tensile strength considerably. Today, we are able to create plastics which are more durable and more resistant, at the same time maintaining the same mass.
FILAMENT FOR 3D PRINTING WITH GRAPHENE ADDITIVE
Advanced Graphene Products is the exclusive producer of unique filament for 3D printers with graphene. Owing to the fact that the company is also the producer of graphene, the filament produced is not only available in a very attractive price but full control over its production process is maintained.
3D printing is one of the most developing sectors worldwide. Its accumulated increase in the forthcoming ten years is estimated at 20-30 % annually. More and more sectors use 3D printing. The leaders include: the tool sector, the producers of parts, R&D and prototyping. How to use the filament with graphene? It is advantageous to use it in printing controllers for games, MIDI controllers, keyboards, and in printing paths conducting electricity in electronic devices (e.g. for LEDs).
As far as the sectors using the filament with graphene are concerned, these are mostly: telecommunications, medicine, aviation and space industry. Filaments with graphene are suitable when high resistance and durability are required because its has much better parameters in this aspect than ABS.
GRAPHENE AS AN INGREDIENT OF TECHNICAL OILS
The use of graphene in technical oils, i.e. motor, base, hydraulic or machine oils improves its properties. Adding graphene reduces friction, protects motors and improves the efficiency of technical oils. It also decreases the emission of carbon dioxide to the atmosphere.
Advanced Graphene Products researched graphene additive in technical oils. Said research demonstrates that the addition of an optimal graphene amount results in the increase of the Goz (limit load of wear) index by 12% in motor oil, by 45% in base oil, by 77% in hydraulic oil and by 467 % in machine oil. Also in the event of other indices (Pz, Pn, Pt or lh), graphene addition results in the significant improvement of the performance of the oils tested.
It means that owing to graphene we can obtain oils with higher compression, which will extend the lifespan of motors.
GRAPHENE COMPOSITES WITH EXTRAORDINARY PROPERTIES
Graphene composites are materials which are formed as a result of combining graphene with other material in order to obtain a final material with extraordinary properties. Graphene composites have a few prospective applications in the different industry sectors, among other things, in: electronics, aviation, construction, motor, medical and textile. The main factor of such wide application possibilities are the properties of the material, i.a.: high thermal conductivity and high mechanical stiffness.
The AGP research team made use of specialised knowledge within introducing nanomaterials in thermoplastics and resins in order to improve the properties of a carbon fibre composite. Owing to the method devised, the addition of graphene resulted in enlarging a contact surface on the resin – fibre border.
The research conducted determined clearly that adding graphene to carbon bike frames contributed to the improvement of their stiffness by 11%. This application may be implemented currently not only in the bicycle sector but also by the producers of sports equipment, and in the automotive and aviation sector.
GRAPHENE ADDITIVE IN ANTICORROSION COATS
Graphene may be added successfully to protective coats, including anticorrosion paints. The unique graphene properties contribute to the improvement of the barrier properties of composites in which it is used.
The research conducted by AGP proved that adding graphene to paints results in the significant improvement of anticorrosion properties in relation to reference samples.
Anticorrosion coats are used in the following industries: automotive, aviation, construction and shipyard. Using graphene in anticorrosion coats is a breakthrough which will extend considerably the lifespan of individual parts.
